James Black joined ASID in 2016. A veteran finance and administration leader, James oversees all the financial and accounting functions of ASID, the ASID Foundation and the Benevolent Foundation. In this position, James helps the various ASID divisions develop and implement strategic financial plans to ensure the association can perform its missions for its key stakeholder audiences.

Prior to joining ASID, James was Chief Financial Officer for the National Association of State Workforce Agencies for 14 years and Director of Finance for the American Road & Transportation Builders Association for five years. While there, he successfully upgraded the financial and accounting operations of the associations to help them meet their performance goals.

James is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Master’s in Business Administration and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He is a veteran of the US Army and lives on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC with his wife Alison and four children.

5 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT JAMES

  1. Was a Chinese Mandarin Linguist/Cryptologist in the US Army.

  2. Stationed in Hawaii for three years in the Army.

  3. After the Army, took six months off and traveled across the country on a motorcycle.

  4. After his last job, took a year off work. He highly recommends it.

  5. With four children under ten, James and his wife have occasionally, but rarely, found a moment of peace and quiet. It was nice.
